Athena Announcement

Following a successful testing period, the HPC Team is pleased to announce that the Athena GPU cluster is now available for production use.

Existing DGX cluster users may request access to the Athena cluster by sending a short email with the subject line ‘Athena access request’ to  hpc-admin@technion.ac.il .

New GPU cluster users will be granted access to Athena automatically following the submission of the registration form.

Below, please find the list of currently available Athena resources as shown by SLURM info. More GPU servers will be added to the cluster in the future.

We strongly recommend  to study carefully the Athena GPU Cluster User Guide  before  beginning to  work on  Athena. This recommendation  refers to  fresh GPU users, as well as  to current DGX  cluster users,  as the software environment and SLURM resource management policies differ significantly from those, implemented on DGX cluster.

During the testing period the usage of access to Athena was provided free of charge. Beginning  May 1 2026 the usage fees will be applied, as described at the   HPC Billing Procedure page in the section covering ATHENA and DGX clusters.

Please note that billing was simulated during the transition period from April 1, 2026, to May 1, 2026. Accordingly, the usage reports you receive in the beginning of May  will be for informational purposes only. The first actual usage reports, based on which payment orders will be issued to the relevant groups, will be sent  in the beginning of June  2026.

We also welcome you to explore Odin, Athena’s new browser-based interface powered by Open OnDemand. Odin currently provides several Interactive Applications, including JupyterLab for ready-to-use PyTorch and TensorFlow development environments.Additional Interactive Applications will be added over time based on research groups  requests.

For questions/assistance please send a message to <hpcadmin@technion.ac.il>  or open a ticket  at the  Service Portal
