After examining several virtualization systems such as Xen, KVM, Hyper-V and following the agreement between IUCC and VMware, it was decided to implement a unified VMware virtualization system for the Technion main systems.
VMware has been designed to ensure maximum survivability of a communication network, F/C network and electricity network, with an emphasis on information security and future growth.
At present, this system consists of 5 clusters of about 30 hosts and several hundred hosted servers (guests). Grouping to clusters is done by types of services, networks, and storage.
The clusters are:
- Windows
- Linux
- SAP
- GIS
- Communication
Currently, this system provides server hosting services to the campus according to the CIS price list
