Sale of Organizational ChatGPT Licenses – Through CIS Shop

The use of AI tools across various domains continues to accelerate, along with the growing need
for secure, institutionally licensed AI solutions that include professional support and service.

In response to the increasing demand for licenses, the Technion – together with other universities –
through Machba (Inter-University Computation Center), conducted negotiations in recent months with OpenAI
and signed an agreement for institutional licensing.

Under this agreement, the Technion completed a centralized procurement of upgraded licenses for the
ChatGPT Education version for Technion faculty members. These licenses are managed
by the Technion within a dedicated, secure organizational environment.

The license is now available for purchase through CIS Shop:
https://cis-shop.technion.ac.il/

Product page:
https://cis-shop.technion.ac.il/product/chatgpt-edu

The ChatGPT Education version is an advanced and enhanced version compared to the Pro version
or other versions currently in use at the Technion. It offers expanded capabilities,
higher levels of security and privacy, and performance optimized specifically for academic institutions,
both in terms of functionality and adaptation to teaching and research environments.

License Details

  • The license is sold for a one-year calendar period (until July 6, 2026).
  • ChatGPT Education is tailored for academia, offering expanded capabilities, enhanced privacy, and performance optimized for research and teaching workloads.
  • A comparison table between the Education version and the standard commercial version appears below.
  • Please note: The version currently does not include support for the OpenAI Developer Platform.
  • Security and privacy – please refer to rows 2, 9, and 13 in the comparison table.

Purchase and Usage

  • The license is valid from the date of purchase until July 6, 2026.
  • Prior to expiration, a renewal notification will be sent.
  • Charges will be prorated for users registering after July 7.
  • Price: $23.6 per month, totaling $283.2 per year (VAT included).
  • Please note: This license replaces OpenAI licenses previously purchased
independently through research or other Technion budgets.
Users who purchased previous OpenAI licenses through the Technion will receive
a separate email regarding the transition to the institutional license.
  • With activation of the institutional license, it will no longer be possible to purchase
an OpenAI license using a Technion email address outside the Technion Software Store.
  • Institutional licenses must be renewed upon receiving renewal reminders and no later than July 6 each year.
  • If not renewed by July 6, the account will be deleted and all associated data will be permanently unrecoverable.
